Our premium-quality industrial-grade non-woven file belts are long-lasting and produce a great finish for steel, stainless steel, and aluminum surfaces.

Non-Woven Surface Conditioning File Belt Product Details

  • The belts are produced with resin-bonded aluminum oxide grains that are evenly dispersed on open-web nylon mesh fibers to deliver consistent results.
  • The belts are flexible, but they will not stretch with a strong, reinforced backing.
  • The belts are designed to resist loading and heat build-up to extend the lifespan of the belt.
  • All of our surface conditioning file belts are hand built in the USA.

Determining Grit Equivalents For Surface Conditioning File Belts

You’ll notice that our non-woven file belts are offered in three different varieties: coarse, medium, and fine. There is no grit rating for non-woven belts, but each belt will produce a scratch pattern consistent with certain grit sizes. Below are the grit equivalents for the different non-woven file belt varieties.

  • Coarse (Brown) is equivalent to P120 - P150
  • Medium (Maroon) is equivalent to P150 - P180
  • Fine (Blue) is equivalent to P240 - P280

What Are Surface Conditioning File Belts & What Are They Used For?

Non-woven file belts are produced with a non-woven nylon mesh scattered with resin-bonded abrasive grains as opposed to a standard sanding belt, which has abrasive grains coated directly onto the belt backing.

Surface conditioning belts are not well-designed for stock removal. They aren’t used to drastically change the shape or dimensions of your workpiece. Instead, they’re designed to provide a consistent and smooth finish. Non-woven file belts are pliable, which allows them to conform to uneven surfaces to create a smooth finish.

Non-woven file belts are commonly used by welders, metal fabricators, and auto body shops. They’re great for cleaning up welds, removing rust, and smoothing metal surfaces.

Julian ★★★★★

Bought these to clean up aluminum welds on a project and the finish came out way better than the scuff pads I was using before. The 1/4 x 24 size fits my air file perfectly, and after a full afternoon of use the belts still had plenty of life left. Ten in a pack for this price is a solid deal.

Michael J. ★★★★★

I've been running these on stainless weld cleanup and they hold up way better than the coated abrasives I used before. The 1/4 x 24 size fits my air file perfectly and the finish is even, no swirl marks.

Harper ★★★★★

The non-woven material really bites into stainless without loading up like sandpaper does. Ten belts in the pack means I'm not rationing them on big jobs, and the finish is consistent from the first belt to the last.
