Common Uses For Zirconia Wide Belts

Zirconia wide belts are designed for sanding hardwoods and metals with a wide belt machine. Zirconia wide belts are commonly used to remove surface material, deburr metal, and finish workpiece surfaces. They’re often used for furniture and instrument manufacturing but can be used in many other industries.

Zirconia Vs Aluminum Oxide Wide Belts

In addition to zirconia wide belts, Red Label Abrasives also manufactures aluminum oxide wide belts. You may end up comparing the two and wondering which abrasive grain would be best for your application.

Compared to aluminum oxide, zirconia is stronger, more durable, and more aggressive abrasive grain. Zirconia was the strongest abrasive grain on the market before the creation of ceramic belts. Zirconia is the better choice for sanding harder materials like hardwoods and metals. The aggressive cut the grains provide will sand these harder materials faster.

Zirconia wide belts have a higher price tag compared to aluminum oxide wide belts, but they also have a longer lifespan. You’ll end up saving money in the long run because you’ll have to buy belts less frequently.

    Chloe V. ★★★★★

Ran these on a big oak tabletop job and the Y-weight backing held up without a single tear. The zirconia grit kept cutting way longer than the aluminum oxide belts I’d been burning through.

    Emma ★★★★★

These belts just eat through a stack of hard maple like it's nothing; the Y-weight backing really does make them last longer than anything else I've picked up. I'm getting through twice as many doors per belt now, easily.

    Daniel N. ★★★★★

Hands down the best belt I've tried for flattening a walnut table top—the Y-weight backing really holds up under pressure. It cuts fast and stays sharp way longer than the cheap stuff I used before.
