Common Uses For Zirconia Wide Belts

Zirconia wide belts are designed for sanding hardwoods and metals with a wide belt machine. Zirconia wide belts are commonly used to remove surface material, deburr metal, and finish workpiece surfaces. They’re often used for furniture and instrument manufacturing but can be used in many other industries.

Zirconia Vs Aluminum Oxide Wide Belts

In addition to zirconia wide belts, Red Label Abrasives also manufactures aluminum oxide wide belts. You may end up comparing the two and wondering which abrasive grain would be best for your application.

Compared to aluminum oxide, zirconia is stronger, more durable, and more aggressive abrasive grain. Zirconia was the strongest abrasive grain on the market before the creation of ceramic belts. Zirconia is the better choice for sanding harder materials like hardwoods and metals. The aggressive cut the grains provide will sand these harder materials faster.

Zirconia wide belts have a higher price tag compared to aluminum oxide wide belts, but they also have a longer lifespan. You’ll end up saving money in the long run because you’ll have to buy belts less frequently.

    Scarlett K. ★★★★★

The 19x48 size fit my wide-belt sander perfectly, and the zirconia grit chewed through a stack of oak planks without loading up once. The Y-weight backing feels seriously tough, like it’ll outlast any of the cheaper cloth belts I’ve burned through.

    Eva ★★★★★

I’ve been using this wide sanding belt on some tough stainless steel edges, and the Y-weight backing hasn’t shown any wear yet. Really glad it holds up through heavy metalwork without tearing.

    Steven P. ★★★★★

These belts chew through oak like it's butter, and the 19x48 size fits my wide-belt sander without any tracking fuss. I've put one through a full day of flattening a walnut tabletop and it still has plenty of bite left, the Y-weight backing really holds its shape.
