Common Uses For Zirconia Wide Belts

Zirconia wide belts are designed for sanding hardwoods and metals with a wide belt machine. Zirconia wide belts are commonly used to remove surface material, deburr metal, and finish workpiece surfaces. They’re often used for furniture and instrument manufacturing but can be used in many other industries.

Zirconia Vs Aluminum Oxide Wide Belts

In addition to zirconia wide belts, Red Label Abrasives also manufactures aluminum oxide wide belts. You may end up comparing the two and wondering which abrasive grain would be best for your application.

Compared to aluminum oxide, zirconia is stronger, more durable, and more aggressive abrasive grain. Zirconia was the strongest abrasive grain on the market before the creation of ceramic belts. Zirconia is the better choice for sanding harder materials like hardwoods and metals. The aggressive cut the grains provide will sand these harder materials faster.

Zirconia wide belts have a higher price tag compared to aluminum oxide wide belts, but they also have a longer lifespan. You’ll end up saving money in the long run because you’ll have to buy belts less frequently.

John ★★★★★

The Y-weight backing on this 37x75 belt is no joke—it tore through a stack of oak planks without a single tear or fray. Zirconia grit kept cutting hard even after an hour of heavy use on my drum sander, and the belt held true without tracking off. This is my new go-to for the tough stuff.

Amelia ★★★★★

Setup took a minute because the belt is stiff out of the box, but once it broke in on some oak it cut fast and clean without loading up. The 37x75 size fit my wide-belt sander perfectly.

Aurora K. ★★★★★

The Y-weight backing is the real deal—it held up through a full afternoon of flattening oak table slabs without any fraying at the edges. Cutting stayed aggressive the whole time, and the belt didn’t load up with resin like cheaper ones do.
