Common Uses For Zirconia Wide Belts

Zirconia wide belts are designed for sanding hardwoods and metals with a wide belt machine. Zirconia wide belts are commonly used to remove surface material, deburr metal, and finish workpiece surfaces. They’re often used for furniture and instrument manufacturing but can be used in many other industries.

Zirconia Vs Aluminum Oxide Wide Belts

In addition to zirconia wide belts, Red Label Abrasives also manufactures aluminum oxide wide belts. You may end up comparing the two and wondering which abrasive grain would be best for your application.

Compared to aluminum oxide, zirconia is stronger, more durable, and more aggressive abrasive grain. Zirconia was the strongest abrasive grain on the market before the creation of ceramic belts. Zirconia is the better choice for sanding harder materials like hardwoods and metals. The aggressive cut the grains provide will sand these harder materials faster.

Zirconia wide belts have a higher price tag compared to aluminum oxide wide belts, but they also have a longer lifespan. You’ll end up saving money in the long run because you’ll have to buy belts less frequently.

Brian X. ★★★★★

Used these on some gnarly oak table legs, and the Y-weight backing really held up without fraying or tearing. Cuts through the wood noticeably faster than the aluminum oxide belts I had before. Already ordered another set.

Carter C. ★★★★★

Finally, a sanding belt that cuts through stainless steel without loading up. Used it for 20 minutes straight on a heavy weld removal job and the zirconia grain stayed sharp. Definitely worth the extra cost for tough materials.

Benjamin Y. ★★★★★

I’ve been chewing through oak and stainless steel with this belt and it’s barely worn down—the heavy Y-weight backing really holds up. Cutting speed stayed consistent from the first pass to the last, no tearing or glazing on the edges.
